55. Surah Ar-Rahmaan (The Most Gracious)In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. 1YUSUFALI : (Allah) Most Gracious! PICKTHAL : The Beneficent SHAKIR : The Beneficent Allah, M& HILALI : The Most Beneficent (Allah)! 2YUSUFALI : It is He Who has taught the Qur'an. PICKTHAL : Hath made known the Qur'an. SHAKIR : Taught the Quran. M& HILALI : Has taught (you mankind) the Qur'an (by His Mercy). 3YUSUFALI : He has created man: PICKTHAL : He hath created man. SHAKIR : He created man, M& HILALI : He created man. 4YUSUFALI : He has taught him speech (and intelligence). PICKTHAL : He hath taught him utterance. SHAKIR : Taught him the mode of expression. M& HILALI : He taught him eloquent speech. 5YUSUFALI : The sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed; PICKTHAL : The sun and the moon are made punctual. SHAKIR : The sun and the moon follow a reckoning. M& HILALI : The sun and the moon run on their fixed courses (exactly) calculated with measured out stages for each (for reckoning, etc.). 6YUSUFALI : And the herbs and the trees - both (alike) prostrate in adoration. PICKTHAL : The stars and the trees prostrate. SHAKIR : And the herbs and the trees do prostrate (to Him). M& HILALI : And the herbs (or stars) and the trees both prostrate. 7YUSUFALI : And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of Justice), PICKTHAL : And the sky He hath uplifted; and He hath set the measure, SHAKIR : And the heaven, He raised it high, and He made the balance M& HILALI : And the heaven He has raised high, and He has set up the Balance. 8YUSUFALI : In order that ye may not transgress (due) balance. PICKTHAL : That ye exceed not the measure, SHAKIR : That you may not be inordinate in respect of the measure. M& HILALI : In order that you may not transgress (due) balance. 9YUSUFALI : So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance. PICKTHAL : But observe the measure strictly, nor fall short thereof. SHAKIR : And keep up the balance with equity and do not make the measure deficient. M& HILALI : And observe the weight with equity and do not make the balance deficient. 10YUSUFALI : It is He Who has spread out the earth for (His) creatures: PICKTHAL : And the earth hath He appointed for (His) creatures, SHAKIR : And the earth, He has set it for living creatures; M& HILALI : And the earth He has put for the creatures. 11YUSUFALI : Therein is fruit and date-palms, producing spathes (enclosing dates); PICKTHAL : Wherein are fruit and sheathed palm-trees, SHAKIR : Therein is fruit and palms having sheathed clusters, M& HILALI : Therein are fruits, date-palms producing sheathed fruit-stalks (enclosing dates). 12YUSUFALI : Also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-smelling plants. PICKTHAL : Husked grain and scented herb. SHAKIR : And the grain with (its) husk and fragrance. M& HILALI : And also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-scented plants. 13YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 14YUSUFALI : He created man from sounding clay like unto pottery, PICKTHAL : He created man of clay like the potter's, SHAKIR : He created man from dry clay like earthen vessels, M& HILALI : He created man (Adam) from sounding clay like the clay of pottery. 15YUSUFALI : And He created Jinns from fire free of smoke: PICKTHAL : And the jinn did He create of smokeless fire. SHAKIR : And He created the jinn of a flame of fire. M& HILALI : And the jinns did He create from a smokeless flame of fire. 16YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 17YUSUFALI : (He is) Lord of the two Easts and Lord of the two Wests: PICKTHAL : Lord of the two Easts, and Lord of the two Wests! SHAKIR : Lord of the East and Lord of the West. M& HILALI : (He is) the Lord of the two easts (places of sunrise during early summer and early winter) and the Lord of the two wests (places of sunset during early summer and early winter). 18YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 19YUSUFALI : He has let free the two bodies of flowing water, meeting together: PICKTHAL : He hath loosed the two seas. They meet. SHAKIR : He has made the two seas to flow freely (so that) they meet together: M& HILALI : He has let loosed the two seas (the salt water and the sweet) meeting together. 20YUSUFALI : Between them is a Barrier which they do not transgress: PICKTHAL : There is a barrier between them. They encroach not (one upon the other). SHAKIR : Between them is a barrier which they cannot pass. M& HILALI : Between them is a barrier which none of them can transgress. 21YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 22YUSUFALI : Out of them come Pearls and Coral: PICKTHAL : There cometh forth from both of them the pearl and coral-stone. SHAKIR : There come forth from them pearls, both large and small. M& HILALI : Out of them both come out pearl and coral. 23YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 24YUSUFALI : And His are the Ships sailing smoothly through the seas, lofty as mountains: PICKTHAL : His are the ships displayed upon the sea, like banners. SHAKIR : And His are the ships reared aloft in the sea like mountains. M& HILALI : And His are the ships going and coming in the seas, like mountains. 25YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 26YUSUFALI : All that is on earth will perish: PICKTHAL : Everyone that is thereon will pass away; SHAKIR : Everyone on it must pass away. M& HILALI : Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish. 27YUSUFALI : But will abide (for ever) the Face of thy Lord,- full of Majesty, Bounty and Honour. PICKTHAL : There remaineth but the Countenance of thy Lord of Might and Glory. SHAKIR : And there will endure for ever the person of your Lord, the Lord of glory and honor. M& HILALI : And the Face of your Lord full of Majesty and Honour will abide forever. 28YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 29YUSUFALI : Of Him seeks (its need) every creature in the heavens and on earth: every day in (new) Splendour doth He (shine)! PICKTHAL : All that are in the heavens and the earth entreat Him. Every day He exerciseth (universal) power. SHAKIR : All those who are in the heavens and the earth ask of Him; every moment He is in a state (of glory). M& HILALI : Whosoever is in the heavens and on earth begs of Him (its needs from Him). Every day He has a matter to bring forth (such as giving honour to some, disgrace to some, life to some, death to some, etc.)! 30YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 31YUSUFALI : Soon shall We settle your affairs, O both ye worlds! PICKTHAL : We shall dispose of you, O ye two dependents (man and jinn). SHAKIR : Soon will We apply Ourselves to you, O you two armies. M& HILALI : We shall attend to you, O you two classes (jinns and men)! 32YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 33YUSUFALI : O ye assembly of Jinns and men! If it be ye can pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, pass ye! not without authority shall ye be able to pass! PICKTHAL : O company of jinn and men, if ye have power to penetrate (all) regions of the heavens and the earth, then penetrate (them)! Ye will never penetrate them save with (Our) sanction. SHAKIR : O assembly of the jinn and the men! If you are able to pass through the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass through; you cannot pass through but with authority. M& HILALI : O assembly of jinns and men! If you have power to pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, then pass (them)! But you will never be able to pass them, except with authority (from Allah)! 34YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 35YUSUFALI : On you will be sent (O ye evil ones twain!) a flame of fire (to burn) and a smoke (to choke): no defence will ye have: PICKTHAL : There will be sent, against you both, heat of fire and flash of brass, and ye will not escape. SHAKIR : The flames of fire and smoke will be sent on you two, then you will not be able to defend yourselves. M& HILALI : There will be sent against you both, smokeless flames of fire and (molten) brass, and you will not be able to defend yourselves. 36YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 37YUSUFALI : When the sky is rent asunder, and it becomes red like ointment: PICKTHAL : And when the heaven splitteth asunder and becometh rosy like red hide - SHAKIR : And when the heaven is rent asunder, and then becomes red like red hide. M& HILALI : Then when the heaven is rent asunder, and it becomes rosy or red like red-oil, or red hide. 38YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? - SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 39YUSUFALI : On that Day no question will be asked of man or Jinn as to his sin. PICKTHAL : On that day neither man nor jinni will be questioned of his sin. SHAKIR : So on that day neither man nor jinni shall be asked about his sin. M& HILALI : So on that Day no question will be asked of man or jinn as to his sin, (because they have already been known from their faces either white or black). 40YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 41YUSUFALI : (For) the sinners will be known by their marks: and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet. PICKTHAL : The guilty will be known by their marks, and will be taken by the forelocks and the feet. SHAKIR : The guilty shall be recognized by their marks, so they shall be seized by the forelocks and the feet. M& HILALI : The Mujrimun (polytheists, criminals, sinners, etc.) will be known by their marks (black faces), and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet. 42YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 43YUSUFALI : This is the Hell which the Sinners deny: PICKTHAL : This is hell which the guilty deny. SHAKIR : This is the hell which the guilty called a lie. M& HILALI : This is Hell which the Mujrimun (polytheists, criminals, sinners, etc.) denied. 44YUSUFALI : In its midst and in the midst of boiling hot water will they wander round! PICKTHAL : They go circling round between it and fierce, boiling water. SHAKIR : Round about shall they go between it and hot, boiling water. M& HILALI : They will go between it (Hell) and the boiling hot water! 45YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 46YUSUFALI : But for such as fear the time when they will stand before (the Judgment Seat of) their Lord, there will be two Gardens- PICKTHAL : But for him who feareth the standing before his Lord there are two gardens. SHAKIR : And for him who fears to stand before his Lord are two gardens. M& HILALI : But for him who [the true believer of Islamic Monotheism who performs all the duties ordained by Allah and His Messenger Muhammad [sallallahu alayhi wa sallam], and keeps away (abstain) from all kinds of sin and evil deeds prohibited in Islam and] fears the standing before his Lord, there will be two Gardens (i.e. in Paradise). 47YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?- PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 48YUSUFALI : Containing all kinds (of trees and delights);- PICKTHAL : Of spreading branches. SHAKIR : Having in them various kinds. M& HILALI : With spreading branches; 49YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?- PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 50YUSUFALI : In them (each) will be two Springs flowing (free); PICKTHAL : Wherein are two fountains flowing. SHAKIR : In both of them are two fountains flowing. M& HILALI : In them (both) will be two springs flowing (free) 51YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?- PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 52YUSUFALI : In them will be Fruits of every kind, two and two. PICKTHAL : Wherein is every kind of fruit in pairs. SHAKIR : In both of them are two pairs of every fruit. M& HILALI : In them (both) will be every kind of fruit in pairs. 53YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 54YUSUFALI : They will recline on Carpets, whose inner linings will be of rich brocade: the Fruit of the Gardens will be near (and easy of reach). PICKTHAL : Reclining upon couches lined with silk brocade, the fruit of both the gardens near to hand. SHAKIR : Reclining on beds, the inner coverings of which are of silk brocade; and the fruits of the two gardens shall be within reach. M& HILALI : Reclining upon the couches lined with silk brocade, and the fruits of the two Gardens will be near at hand. 55YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 56YUSUFALI : In them will be (Maidens), chaste, restraining their glances, whom no man or Jinn before them has touched;- PICKTHAL : Therein are those of modest gaze, whom neither man nor jinni will have touched before them. SHAKIR : In them shall be those who restrained their eyes; before them neither man nor jinni shall have touched them. M& HILALI : Wherein both will be those (maidens) restraining their glances upon their husbands, whom no man or jinn yatmithhunna(has opened their hymens with sexual intercourse) before them. 57YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?- PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 58YUSUFALI : Like unto Rubies and coral. PICKTHAL : (In beauty) like the jacynth and the coral-stone. SHAKIR : As though they were rubies and pearls. M& HILALI : (In beauty) they are like rubies and coral. 59YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 60YUSUFALI : Is there any Reward for Good - other than Good? PICKTHAL : Is the reward of goodness aught save goodness? SHAKIR : Is the reward of goodness aught but goodness? M& HILALI : Is there any reward for good other than good? 61YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 62YUSUFALI : And besides these two, there are two other Gardens,- PICKTHAL : And beside them are two other gardens, SHAKIR : And besides these two are two (other) gardens: M& HILALI : And besides these two, there are two other Gardens (i.e. in Paradise). 63YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?- PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 64YUSUFALI : Dark-green in colour (from plentiful watering). PICKTHAL : Dark green with foliage. SHAKIR : Both inclining to blackness. M& HILALI : Dark green (in colour). 65YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 66YUSUFALI : In them (each) will be two Springs pouring forth water in continuous abundance: PICKTHAL : Wherein are two abundant springs. SHAKIR : In both of them are two springs gushing forth. M& HILALI : In them (both) will be two springs gushing forth water. 67YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 68YUSUFALI : In them will be Fruits, and dates and pomegranates: PICKTHAL : Wherein is fruit, the date-palm and pomegranate. SHAKIR : In both are fruits and palms and pomegranates. M& HILALI : In them (both) will be fruits, and date- palms and pomegranates. 69YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 70YUSUFALI : In them will be fair (Companions), good, beautiful;- PICKTHAL : Wherein (are found) the good and beautiful - SHAKIR : In them are goodly things, beautiful ones. M& HILALI : Therein (gardens) will be fair (wives) good and beautiful; 71YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?- PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? - SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 72YUSUFALI : Companions restrained (as to their glances), in (goodly) pavilions;- PICKTHAL : Fair ones, close-guarded in pavilions - SHAKIR : Pure ones confined to the pavilions. M& HILALI : Houris (beautiful, fair females) restrained in pavilions; 73YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?- PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? - SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 74YUSUFALI : Whom no man or Jinn before them has touched;- PICKTHAL : Whom neither man nor jinni will have touched before them - SHAKIR : Man has not touched them before them nor jinni. M& HILALI : Whom no man or jinn yatmithhunna (has opened their hymens with sexual intercourse) before them. 75YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?- PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 76YUSUFALI : Reclining on green Cushions and rich Carpets of beauty. PICKTHAL : Reclining on green cushions and fair carpets. SHAKIR : Reclining on green cushions and beautiful carpets. M& HILALI : Reclining on green cushions and rich beautiful mattresses. 77YUSUFALI : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? PICKTHAL : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? SHAKIR : Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? M& HILALI : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 78YUSUFALI : Blessed be the name of thy Lord, full of Majesty, Bounty and Honour. PICKTHAL : Blessed be the name of thy Lord, Mighty and glorious! SHAKIR : Blessed be the name of your Lord, the Lord of Glory and Honor! M& HILALI : Blessed be the Name of your Lord (Allah), the Owner of Majesty and Honour. | |||
