The following was revealed regarding those who used to lower their voices in the presence of the Prophet "sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam", such as Abū Bakr, ‘Umar and others, may Allahu ta’ālā be pleased with [all of] them: Truly those who lower their voices in the presence of Allah’s Messenger (rasūl) - they are the ones whose hearts Allahu ta’ālā has tested for Allahu ta’ālā-fearing, that is to say, [He has tested them] so that this [fear of Allahu ta’ālā] may manifest itself in them. For them will be forgiveness and a great reward: Paradise
